Two international airlines interested in Peru as a hub for operations

Another two international airlines are interested in using Peru as a hub for transit of passengers and cargo, because their executives think that the country's location is unique in Latin America, said Peru's Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC).

"Two major airlines have asked the MTC to asses the possibility of having a hub at Jorge Chavez International Airport," said Minister Enrique Cornejo.

Currently, Taca and Lan Chile have actually turned Lima into their center of interconnection of passengers with their  destinations.

"Jorge Chavez Airport and is already a hub, that is, that a significant amount of passengers arrive here in transit to other parts of the continent," Cornejo said.

I hope one of these is from Australia. The current situation makes it very difficult and time consuming to travel between Australia and Peru.

Doubt it. I bet it will be one from Europe and one from maybe Asia or North America.

Yes,David...I agree. The biggest hassle is the 8 hour wait at Santiago en route TO Peru, via Lan Chile.

Hopefully Qantas on its own, or in conjunction with Lan, can do something to improve the timing.

If we could cut NZ out of the flight path, that would be even better....but I don't think the jets can carry enough fuel to go direct to Santiago or Lima, from Melbourne or Sydney.
