Film shot in Peru in Cannes Festival

Peruvian actress and singer Magaly Solier defended today in Cannes “Altiplano,” a movie that denounces the abuses that some mining companies do in Peru against the population.

The movie, by Peter Brosens (Belgium) and Jessica Woodworth (US) is based on a real mercury spill that occurred in Choropampa in 2000, which produced many collateral damages among the population.

"There is always going to be problems, since the owners of the mines are rich people who are making a lot of money and I suppose that's why the government treats them with silk's gloves. Authorities do not defend to the population, they defend the owners of the mining businesses instead," assured Solier in a interview with a news agency.

“The movie is going to generate a lot of polemic, but we are to defend it," she added.

According to Solier, topics like these are not openly discussed in Peru because "Peru is afraid to talk about the reality.”

Pop boy band The Jonas Brothers, the latest teen craze, caused huge euphoria among their 29,000 young fans who packed the National Stadium of Lima

The show started with the supporting artist Demi Lovato, who sang her most popular hits for more than half an hour.

"Hello Peru! We love you. Thank you for coming tonight, "was Nick's greeting, which enthralled the whole audience, conformed mostly by teen girls and their parents.

The setlist started with "Burning Up", and then they played “That's The Way We Roll”.

"Hello, Peru, love, thank you for your support," they said in Spanish, sending the teen crowd into frenzy.

But the audience's euphoria was absolute when they sang "When You Look Me In The Eyes"; Joe stepped onto the piano showing a Peruvian flag, which made the fans cry in rapture.

The young band will perform again in Lima tonight, and then will continue their tour in Chile, Argentina and Brazil.

"The Three Jacks" Perform a Spectacular Show - Extra Concert TONIGHT!

by
Carsten Korch

It’s been a while since I’ve attended such a wonderful and intimate concert like last night.  Three Jacks entertained me and about 500 other guests in the concert hall of Colegio Santa Ursula. I had “only” expected to enjoy some Irish/Scottish Celtic music and see some beautiful dancers, but I got much more that I had bargained for, when the band, 4 women and two gentlemen entered the stage and offered us a journey full of wonderful music, dances and great stories. Despite the fact that the performance was in a concert hall, the band was able to turn the environment into something cozy, and during the concert I started thinking of a bar in Killkenny back in Ireland that I visited more than 10 years ago. There I had the privilege to attend a night (not an evening) , where all the city’s musicians met at the bar of my hotel and started playing/jamming together as they arrived. I’ll never forget that night and the Three Jacks reminded me last night why.  Ireland is beautiful.

There is a good reason why some of the best musicians like Van Morrison, U2, Sinead O’Conner and others have been able to conquer the world with their music in the past – last night it was the Three Jacks that conquered Lima and I can only recommend you to attend this evenings EXTRA concert (almost SOLD OUT).

Tickets are available from S/. 50 to S/. 135 at Teleticket

Where When : 7 PM tonight at the Concert Hall of Colegio Santa Ursula, San Isidro

I almost forgot. Not only do you get an excellent concert, but all the money you pay for your ticket is spend wisely with the help of Rotary Club Lima Sunrise to build a clinic in Pisco, where the inhabitants still don’t have a hospital after the big Earthquake back in August 2007 destroyed most of the city.

Oasis still impressed with Peruvian fans

LivinginPeru.com

The concert at the National Stadium of Lima made a very pleasant impression to the members of the British banda, according to statements made in Chile bassist Andy Bell.

"The Peruvian public is the one who has impressed us most," he said.

It was the first time in Lima and there was a lot of passion," recalled the musician in an interview with Chilean media.

Bell is not the first Oasis member to share his good impressions. Noel Gallagher, one of the leaders of the group, also said that the show "was incredible."

More than 40,000 fans packed the National Stadium of Lima for that concert.

In another South American cities the attendance was lower: for example, in Santiago de Chile was attended by only 12,000 fans.
