Peru Competes In 21 Categories At The World Travel Awards 2018

Peru is consolidated as the best tourist destination in South America for its global recognition as a gastronomic, cultural and nature destination, thanks to its extraordinary biodiversity and natural ecosystems that attract more and more visitors.

This is why the country is competing in 21 categories at the 2018 World Travel Awards, which recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry, said El Peruano.

Marisol Acosta, director of Tourism of the Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism (Promperú), said that now other forms of tourism are being promoted, which also have an enormous development potential.

Acosta said that the conditions offered by the country for enjoyment in the various types of tourism are exceptional; therefore, niches are created to attract visitors interested in whale watching in the north of Peru, the unforgettable experiences of rural community tourism, the tourism of meetings with important events that attracted global attention such as the Summit of the Americas, the visit of Pope Francis, the Dakar Rally, among others carried out this year.
According to the director of Promperú, the importance of Peru for receptive tourism makes it possible to compete in 21 categories at the World Travel Awards 2018. The awards the country is wishing to obtain are: best destination of adventure tourism leader; leading beach destination, with the Máncora spa; leading business travel destination, with the city of Lima; tourism council of the leading city, with the Convention and Visitors Center of Lima; leading cruise destination; main culinary destination; leading cultural destination; South America’s leading destination, with the city of Lima; main destination of events and festivals in South America, with the city of Lima; green leader destination; nature destination leader in South America; leading river cruise destination.
Among other titles Peru wishes to obtain are: youth travel destination; most romantic destination in South America; leading sports tourism destination; leading tourist attraction, with Machu Picchu; whale watching destination; and the main tourism committee of South America, with Promperú.
