The Salkantay Trek is one of several routes to get to Machu Picchu. It usually takes four days and three nights. However, American runner Tyler Andrews did it in just six hours.
The 40-mile long trek, a little more than 64 kilometers, crosses the Andes and Tyler Andrews was able to finish it in just six hours, 13 minutes and 3 seconds. He’s now the fastest person recorded to do the trek, ever.
“This was one of the harder things that I’ve ever done,” Andrews told WJCT News. He added that he writes a mantra on his arm before running and this time he wrote “savor every moment” since he knew he would be passing through very difficult patches, both physically and mentally.
Tyler is the co-founder of Strive Trips, a running and service program for teens. He also is the holder of the fastest half-marathon on a treadmill.
