Don Michael Distillery, the same behind the best whiskey in the world, is launching “Andean Gin Blueberry,” a color-changing gin that will revolutionize bars worldwide.
Since the pandemic, the gin business has expanded rapidly, achieving significant growth worldwide and finding emerging nations such as Peru as key markets for that growth. By the end of 2022, Peru imported this beverage worth $2.4 million in 523 thousand liters, recording an increase of 74% and 72%, respectively. Under this premise, gin is categorized as the fastest-growing beverage in that segment, and the creation of a gin with distinctive value-adding features to its successful Andean Gin was a challenge that Don Michael Distillery is taking on today with a gluten-free version where Peruvian blueberries take center stage with “Andean Gin Blueberry.”
A Great Partnership
The foreign market is crucial in the ambitious growth goals that Don Michael Distillery has set for Andean Gin Arándanos in the short term. It will be available for sale at the Duty-Free Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima, Peru, starting April 15. “The blueberry, a distinctive ingredient in the creation, is one of the country’s main export fruits. Combined with being a distilled product from an award-winning company, it confirms and turns it into a seal of quality. We managed to create Black Whiskey, an Andean whiskey made from purple corn, a grain so well known and consumed by the population, and Andean Gin Blueberry uses one of the most valued fruits, where Peru is the world’s leading exporter. We invite you to discover Peru in a bottle!” says Michael Kuryla, CEO of Don Michael Distillery. “It’s a unique product that not only generates pride by using Peruvian ingredients but also showcases the great potential in our country,” Added.
“In this project, we sought to highlight the handcrafted nature of gin and its Peruvian identity. The spirit of the Andes blends smoothly with blueberries, dehydrated pineapples from Chanchamayo, exotic vanilla from Tarapoto, almonds, and bluebell flower (which allows the distillate to change color when combined with lemon). It’s an unparalleled gin that meets high standards in quality, traceability, and delivery time. It is a sustainable and socially responsible model with our planet,” shares Daiana Milon, Master Blended.
Tasting the rainbow
It is ideal for drinking Gin & Tonic or cocktails with red fruits or sours. It is a very expressive gin that looks clear with intense blue and violet hues; it has an elegant aroma where the intensity of Juniper, Amazonic vanilla, and blueberries combine, balanced with citrus notes. The taste is Fresh and fruity notes toward the blueberries with a persistence of the aromas.
Its color comes from the butterfly pea flower, a favorite among bartenders who bring this unique gin to life. When mixed with an acidic substance, it will change color from blue to pink.
