The activist Arlette Contreras, whose case prompted the movement “Ni una menos” (Not one less) in Peru, declared after the annulment of the acquittal of her aggressor, that she will not submit to “a third trial” because her case “is not proof of resistance” and that she will take her denunciation to international instances.
“I have already gone through an oral trial twice and I cannot allow this to be a test of resistance for women, because I can be here giving my face and denouncing what is happening, but many women are not going to have the same strength”, assured Contreras in a press conference in Lima, according to EFE.
Less than a month ago, Arlette Contreras received the “Defender of Human Rights 2018” (Human Rights Defenders Award) from the hands of Kate Harrisson, the British Ambassador to the country.
She became the face of the #NiUnaMenos movement against domestic violence in Peru after a video where her boyfriend attacked her boyfriend went viral.
