When we found out that Transformers: Rise of the Beast was filming on Cusco city we got excited to see what Director: Steven Caple Jr. had in mind and he didn’t dissapoint.
AROUND THE WORLD – SPOILER FREE
Set in the future, roughly 300 years after the events of the original animated series, the movie features the Maximals and Predacons, descendants of the Autobots and Decepticons, respectively, are protecting their home world and traveling thru time and space to an unknown planet (Earth). Set seven years after the events of the 2018 Bumblebee, which rebooted the movie continuity to accommodate cartoonier Transformers designs to have a more light-hearted and retro sensibility.
The movie portrays three factions; Maximals have all been on Earth for a long time; Autobots, that have been stuck on Earth for seven years and Terracons, that arrive on Earth following events in the movie.
The movie’s first half occurs in Brooklyn, where the character’s background story happens. You will meet Noah Diaz, the lead character, a real American hero with something to prove, and the young Elena, a genius girl who gets involved in the movie out of curiosity.
The 90’s era music includes Wu-Tang Clan, SWV, Nas, LL Cool J, Notorious B.IG, and a great interpretation of TLC’s Waterfalls. You can listen it on this Spotify list
The second half of the movie occurs during the Inti Raymi events in Cusco, in Perú; you will be able to see Autobots “rolling out” the streets of Cusco city, flying over the grandiosity of the Inca ruins and connecting with locals.
The connection with the Peruvian land was outstanding; the stunning photography will show you precisely what you feel the first time you visit to Sacsayhuaman, next to Cusco city. With bright colors, colonial architecture, and a sense of connection with Earth, Maximals understood and connected with the people in the plot, and you can feel it too. Action packed sequences occurs all over cusco, maximals running on top of the red roofs houses, visiting the San Pedro church, crash and burns on the hills and a visit deep into the jungle.
The protagonists will find themselves sleeping in a tent made of Ichu (commonly known as Peruvian feathergrass), and you can feel the sense of calmness that Cusco brings.
Some of the favorite characters are in the movie from Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal, the beloved Bumblebee, and the addition to the cast of Mirage (voiced by Pete Davidson), a first-generation autobot adored by the fans. The main rival is a new iteration of Scourge joined by Battletrap and Nightbird. The “Planet Eater” Unicron plays a considerable role in Rise of the Beasts after missing its chance in Michael Bay’s Transformers continuity; Paramount and Hasbro want to use it to attract as many fans as possible instead of slowly building toward his arrival again and also building a new “Hasbroverse” with the inclusion of other franchises.
