Tumbes seeks to become the capital of whale watching in Peru. The coasts of Canoas and Punta Sal are ideal to spot whales from July to October.
Tumbes aims to be the main tourist destination in the northern region of Peru. Sitting on the banks of the Tumbes river and with access to the impressive biodiversity of the Pacific coast region, Tumbes has always been a destination for sea lovers.
One of the main attractions in Tumbes is whale shark and whale watching. Specifically, the Canoas district of Punta Sal, (just 78 kilometers to the south of the capital of Tumbes) is a privileged natural area.
For the months between July and October, the coasts of Tumbes are home to the humpback whale, which arrive from the cold waters of the Antarctic to give birth and mate. Visitors have a spectacular opportunity to see these animals up close.
